Low Vision

Goodcare AtHome Rehab offers occupational therapists who specialize in vision related deficits and how they affect your ability to care for yourself or complete daily tasks. These deficits are typically classified in two categories: low vision, and neurological vision impairment.

Low Vision is a general term that refers to a permanent functional vision loss that cannot be corrected by medication, surgery, or glasses. Low vision patients may experience wide degrees of vision loss. Low vision is most common as we aquire age-related conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, cataracts, and glaucoma.

Neurological Vision Impairment is loss of vision resulting from an acquired brain injury or impairment in the coordination of the eyes, and difficulties with visual perception The many causes of this type of vision impairment include stroke, brain tumor, head injury and infections such as meningitis.

Your individual in home vision therapy plan will include instruction in compensation techniques and task or environmental modifications that assist you in your everyday life. We will focus on retraining (if possible) or compensating for lost eye function and making practical life adjustments that allow you to reach your end goal of living independently.
