Assessment and treatment for memory and cognitive disorders can be very complex due to the wide variety of causes and diagnoses of each condition which requires coordination with physicians, therapists, caregivers, family, and clients.
Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia
As we age, we begin to notice that we have difficulties with tasks that used to be so easy, such as taking medications, balancing our checkbook, following a recipe. This condition is often called “mild cognitive impairment”. Our therapists can help! We offer a 6 week treatment program to address these challenges called “STEP Program”.
At times, these challenges can continue to progress and your physician may diagnose you with “dementia”. It is our goal to help our clients with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia stay in the comfort of their own home. Our therapists are will work with clients, family members, and in-home caregivers to develop best practices for a safe and functional environment at home. In addition, our therapists are very skilled at addressing behaviors that may occur as dementia progresses. We provide an individualized assessment of the client’s cognitive abilities, safety in the home environment, and consult with caregivers on possible causes of behaviors working with them to prevent and deter those behaviors from recurring. We offer an approach to addressing challenging behaviors called “Head, Hands, Heart”. Please contact us for more details. We welcome your questions on in-home memory and cognitive therapy services.
